Get the best in motorcycle security
Motorcycle security is one of those investments we hope never gets tested. Whether you’ve got a scooter or a superbike, you’ve worked hard to get it, maintain it and looks after it. The good news is that you can minimise the risk of a theft by investing in good quality security, and making sure you use it in your garage or when you’re out and about.
We’ve got a full range of security kit to dissuade the majority of thieves. The secret about security is that you’ll never make your motorcycle impossible to steal, but by making it difficult you’ll dissuade all but the most determined thieves.
Motorcycle Security for your garage:
Securing your motorcycle at home is relatively simple. The first step is something to fasten it to, such as this Abus Wall Anchor Granit WBA 100. You can mount the anchor to the wall or ground, and it’s weatherproof to survive outdoors as well. The 16 mm round schackel is made of hardened steel, and the flat design means that you can drive over it when it isn’t in use.
It’s Thatcham tested and approved along with a number of other awards, which can help with your insurance premiums.
You’ll also need something to go between ground anchor and motorcycle, like this Abus Granit 68 Victory Lock and Chain. It’s also Thatcham Category 3 approved, with rotating pieces to hinder the use of opening tools, hardened steel, and a loop chain that helps you to avoid the chain laying on the ground.
Motorcycle Security On The Road:
Although some of us might be able to carry a chain and lock in our panniers, most of us would probably prefer a smaller solution. Especially if you’ve ever tried carrying something that heavy in a rucksack, which relies on something to attach it to when you’ve arrived.
That’s where disc locks come in.
The problem in the past was that disc locks were relatively easy to work around - compared to other security solutions. But the Abus Granit 8077 Detecto Alarmed Disc Lock solves the problem of someone manhandling your bike away when the disc lock stops it from being ridden or wheeled off into the distance.
You may have guessed from the name that it includes an alarm, but the clever aspect is that it will sound when movement is detected with at least 100dB for 15 seconds. Not only will that alert you when someone is trying to steal your bike - it also means you’ll be reminded if you try and ride away with it attached. Or if someone is moving your pride and joy in a crowded bike parking bay.
The cost of all three products listed above is just a few hundred pounds, compared with the cost of higher insurance premiums and any excess you’d have to pay after making a claim.
