Get the best in motorcycle security

Motorcycle security is one of those investments we hope never gets tested. Whether you’ve got a scooter or a superbike, you’ve worked hard to get it, maintain it and looks after it. The good news is that you can minimise the risk of a theft by investing in good quality security, and making sure you use it in your garage or when you’re out and about.

We’ve got a full range of security kit to dissuade the majority of thieves. The secret about security is that you’ll never make your motorcycle impossible to steal, but by making it difficult you’ll dissuade all but the most determined thieves.

Motorcycle Security for your garage:

Abus-Wall-Anchor-WBA-100-1-300x300

Abus Wall Anchor Granit WBA-100

Securing your motorcycle at home is relatively simple. The first step is something to fasten it to, such as this Abus Wall Anchor Granit WBA 100. You can mount the anchor to the wall or ground, and it’s weatherproof to survive outdoors as well. The 16 mm round schackel is made of hardened steel, and the flat design means that you can drive over it when it isn’t in use.

It’s Thatcham tested and approved along with a number of other awards, which can help with your insurance premiums.

Abus Granit 68 Victory Lock and Chain

Abus Granit 68 Victory Lock and Chain

You’ll also need something to go between ground anchor and motorcycle, like this Abus Granit 68 Victory Lock and Chain. It’s also Thatcham Category 3 approved, with rotating pieces to hinder the use of opening tools, hardened steel, and a loop chain that helps you to avoid the chain laying on the ground.

Motorcycle Security On The Road:

Although some of us might be able to carry a chain and lock in our panniers, most of us would probably prefer a smaller solution. Especially if you’ve ever tried carrying something that heavy in a rucksack, which relies on something to attach it to when you’ve arrived.

That’s where disc locks come in.

The Abus Granit 8077 Detecto Alarmed Disc Lock

The Abus Granit 8077 Detecto Alarmed Disc Lock

The problem in the past was that disc locks were relatively easy to work around - compared to other security solutions. But the Abus Granit 8077 Detecto Alarmed Disc Lock solves the problem of someone manhandling your bike away when the disc lock stops it from being ridden or wheeled off into the distance.

You may have guessed from the name that it includes an alarm, but the clever aspect is that it will sound when movement is detected with at least 100dB for 15 seconds. Not only will that alert you when someone is trying to steal your bike - it also means you’ll be reminded if you try and ride away with it attached. Or if someone is moving your pride and joy in a crowded bike parking bay.

The cost of all three products listed above is just a few hundred pounds, compared with the cost of higher insurance premiums and any excess you’d have to pay after making a claim.

5 great reasons to keep biking all year round…

In the UK, the weather has started to get a little wetter and colder, making it tempting to put your bike in the garage until next year. But if you’ve never ridden through Autumn and Winter, then you might not appreciate that it actually has some benefits for you and your riding:

  • 1. Keep your skills sharp: Get back on a bike in Spring after a break and you’ll spend the first few days and weeks of good weather readjusting to two wheels. But if you keep on riding through the Winter months, you’ll be set to get out and make the most of any days of good weather - and that includes the occasional sunny day.
There are few times to enjoy the roads as much as a dry, sunny Christmas day when most people are at home in front of the TV.
  • 2. Get a warm glow avoiding traffic jams: Being stuck in traffic in your car isn’t any less frustrating in Winter. And riding past a queue of cars can give you a warm, smug glow that will last a long while.
  • 3. Buying a Winter Hack: Buying a Winter bike can be a lot of fun. When you’re not fussed about the latest machinery, and you’re browsing for something just to last a while, you can take a risk on something a bit different.
Ride a sportsbike? Why not use a cruiser in winter? Normally ride a tourer? What about a dirt bike? Not only might you end up attached to your Winter transport, but now’s the time to pick up a cheap bike before they all get turned into cafe racers in Shoreditch. You only need a sound engine and electrics, so don’t worry about the bodywork too much!
  • 4. Build up your biking tales: Never ridden around the world, raced in MotoGP or owned a show standard bike? Who cares - if you ride through Winter, you’re immediately able to feel superior to everyone who sat it out, and even the commute to work will keep you in interesting motorcycling stories for months.
  • 5. Winter kit has never been better or cheaper: All-weather textile riding kit improves every year, and while the technology keeps getting better at making sure you’re warm and dry, the prices keep improving too. How else could we offer a Spada Waterproof Package which includes a helmet, jacket, trousers, gloves and boots - all for just £300? (And throw in a kit bag to keep it all in).

Don’t forget if you are intending for your winter bike to last more than one season, you’ll need to regularly rinse it and clean it to remove road salt before it devours your motorcycle. Fortunately the right bike cleaning kit makes that easier. And remember you’ll need a clear visor most of the time - many of the helmets we sell have an integral sun visor to make it even easier to ride in all conditions.

Looking for great flip-front motorcycle helmets?

Flip-front motorcycle helmets combine the safety and comfort of a full-face crash helmet with the practicality of an open-face design, particularly when you’re stopping at petrol stations, or you want to be able to talk to people without constantly putting your lid on and off again.

It’s why they’re chosen by so many people who ride for work, such as paramedics, bike taxis and police motorcyclists. And it’s why they also make great sense for commuters or if you’re touring. You can stop and take a picture of a great scene without messing around with D-ring helmet straps, or quickly ask for directions or advice etc.

Even better, we’ve currently got a range of flip-front lids with prices reduced by up to 72%! That range includes:

Get Cafe Racer style for less

There’s been a huge surge in cafe racer style over the last couple of years. Popularised by a new wave of motorcycle blogs such as Rescogs, Bike Exif and Pipeburn, original machines and modified modern bikes have caught on with a new wave of riders as well as original fans. Cafe Racers, Dirt Trackers and other customs have captured the imagination and current fashion.

But there’s no point in modifying your vintage British Triumph or a more modern Honda CB400 and then riding it in one-piece leathers and a full-face lid. You’ll want to match your bike, and we have just the right helmets and clothing to do that for less.

Helmet: Bultaco Mercurio 155GT:

Bultaco is a classic Spanish brand which was originally founded in 1959 after Montessa director Francisco Bulto had a big disagreement with fellow director Pere Permanyer, who felt the company should move away from racing. As a result Bultaco not only launched with the 125cc Tralla 101 road bike, but just two months later entered the Spanish Grand Prix and took seven of the first ten places. They went on to dominate off-road competition in the 1960s and 1970s.

The Bultaco Mercurio 155 GT is a modern helmet which has the look of the 1974 design, and it’s particularly striking in orange. It comes with a three stud peak, but an optional press stud visor is also available for a real retro road look. And for just £119.99 you get the style, ACU Gold approval, a micro-perforated liner for ventilation with anti-allergic fabric on inner contact areas, and a handy fastening on the rear to hold your goggles.

Kit yourself out on a tight budget

Motorcycling is definitely the most enjoyable way to travel. Whether you’re riding a scooter or the latest sportsbike, you’ll experience more on two wheels than in a car. And with the right kit, you’ll be comfortable and safe.

One of the biggest improvements in biking over the years has been that the general level of quality has risen for motorcycle helmets and clothing - and as a result, you can get yourself into good kit at a much lower price. If you’re on a tight budget, we’ve picked out some of the most cost-effective gear around. In fact, you can pick a crash helmet, jacket, trousers, boots and gloves from the list below for a total price of £220.96.

Motorcycle helmets on a budget:

The VCAN V190 Rage is a pretty astounding helmet. For just £39.99 you can buy a full face motorcycle helmet which is ECE 22.05 for road use, ACU Gold approved for track days, and has achieved a 4 star rating in the government Sharp test. That’s pretty impressive, although it’s less surprising when you know VCAN is one of the largest helmet producers in the world, making lids for other brands including their own. That means they can pass on the savings they make by producing in bulk onto you.

VCAN V190 Rage Motorcycle Helmet

The VCAN V190 Rage Motorcycle Helmet

In addition to the safety ratings, you also get a quick release visor, removable cheek pads and a full venting system. At £40 there’s really no excuse at all for going out in something from the early 1990s that has been in the back of a cupboard for the last decade.

If you prefer a different shell shape or design, we also have the Viper RS-60 full-face helmet in three colour options. It’s also ECE22.05 and ACU Gold approved and costs just £5 more.

If you’re a cruiser rider, you might appreciate the open face Viper RS-V06 with drop down sun visor for when you’ve left your shades behind, whilst cafe racer afficionados might enjoy the same lid with a cool black and white Union Jack design.

Bike clothing on a budget:

Even if you’re on a budget, you can still get some of the coolest brands around. When if comes to brands that impress non-bikers as well as fellow motorcyclists, Alpinestars is right up there. And the stylish but practical Gasoline jacket is just £110 with our 35% off deal.

Alpinestars-Gasoline-Waterproof-Jacket

The Alpinestars Gasoline Waterproof Jacket

That gets you a fully waterproof jacket with removable thermal liner. Plus CE-approved armour in the elbows and shoulders, plus space if you want to add chest and back protector pockets. It’s a great all-round stylish jacket that’ll look good when you’re off the bike as well as on it.

For those on an even tighter budget, we also have the Frank Thomas Aqua Shadow Waterproof Jacket for just £35. Again, you get waterproofing, a removable thermal liner and CE approved shoulder and elbow armour. For just £35!

For your bottom half, we’ve got Red Route Classic Kevlar Jeans for £49.99 - that’s 50% off. They’ll look cool, and have a Kevlar lining in all major impact areas.

Gloves and Boots on a budget:

Gloves are a vital part of your motorcycling kit. Modern waterproof gloves are much less bulky than they were 10 years ago, meaning you can still have fine throttle control, whilst also keeping dry.

The Oxford Bone Dry Hybrid Gloves are great for colder weather with 100% waterproof leather and textile, plus knuckle protection and a handy visor wiping system. And they’re just £25.96.

But for the warmer weather, you could pick some lighter versatile options like the Rayven Aquatec. Top quality cowhide, with a waterproof and breathable lining, plus a Thinsulate liner for when things get a bit chilly. But with added finger and knuckle protection they’ll serve you well all summer.

That’s including VAT and carriage.
